July 8, 2026 /SemiMedia/ — Global semiconductor sales reached $120.6 billion in May 2026, setting the highest monthly sales total on record, the Semiconductor Industry Association said.
The figure was up 9.2% from $110.5 billion in April 2026 and increased 104.1% from $59.1 billion in May 2025.
SIA said the global semiconductor market continued to expand sharply in May and recorded its 15th consecutive month of sequential growth. The increase was driven by strong year-on-year growth in the Americas, Asia Pacific and China.
John Neuffer, SIA president and chief executive officer, said the global chip market continued to grow significantly in May, reaching a record monthly sales level. He said growth continued to be supported by strong gains across major regions.
By region, year-on-year sales increased across all major markets. Sales in the Americas rose 132.2%, Asia Pacific and other regions grew 118.9%, China increased 88.8%, Europe rose 60.7% and Japan grew 23.8%.
Sequentially, all regions also posted growth. China increased 10.7% month-on-month, Asia Pacific and other regions rose 9.2%, the Americas grew 8.6%, Europe increased 7.3% and Japan rose 6.4%.
Industry analysts said the sharp increase in semiconductor sales reflects continued demand from AI servers, high-performance computing, data centers, advanced memory and related power management chips. Recovery in some mature-node, automotive, industrial and consumer electronics markets also supported global chip sales.
The current growth cycle differs from a traditional inventory rebound. AI infrastructure investment is driving demand across advanced logic, HBM, DRAM, NAND Flash, advanced packaging, networking chips and power semiconductors, concentrating growth in higher-value products and high-performance computing supply chains.
However, the market remains uneven. AI-related chips and advanced nodes are seeing strong demand, while some consumer electronics and mature-node products are still affected by inventory adjustments, uneven end-market recovery and pricing volatility.
SIA’s monthly sales data is compiled by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics organization and represents a three-month moving average. SIA represents 99% of the U.S. semiconductor industry by revenue and nearly two-thirds of non-U.S. chip companies.
