Chips for consumer electronics are in oversupply

July 28, 2022

According to the chip supply chain, the supply of automotive and industrial chips remains tight, while chips for consumer electronics are oversupplied.

The industry source said that the chip inventory for consumer electronics held by chip distributors and equipment suppliers has reached a high level, and almost every link in the consumer IC industry is in a state of excess inventory.

The source also pointed out that it will take at least half a year for consumer IC suppliers to complete inventory corrections. Therefore, the demand outlook for consumer electronics in the second half of 2022 is not optimistic.

TSMC had earlier said that as the smartphone, PC and consumer markets slowed, supply chains in these industries would undergo inventory adjustments in the second half of 2022.
