Nexperia dispute and supply chain concerns

November 27, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — China and the European Union held a virtual meeting to address the ongoing dispute involving Nexperia, as both sides seek to prevent renewed volatility in the global semiconductor supply chain. The discussion was led by China’s Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and European Commission Executive Vice President Maroš Šefčovič.

Wang said the disruptions surrounding Nexperia originated from Dutch administrative and legal intervention, which continued to create uncertainty for semiconductor manufacturers relying on stable component flows. He noted that the Dutch decision to suspend its takeover order was a limited step forward and urged the EU to encourage the Netherlands to propose a constructive, long-term solution that would allow the companies involved to negotiate effectively.

EU response and de-escalation efforts

Šefčovič welcomed China’s efforts to avoid a deeper supply chain shock and said the EU remains committed to easing tensions and maintaining a predictable environment for chip producers. He acknowledged that the Nexperia issue remains unresolved and said Europe is prepared to work with China to support further de-escalation.

Next steps for Nexperia and ongoing regulatory dialogue

Both sides agreed that the two Nexperia entities — in the Netherlands and in China — should lead the process of finding a sustainable settlement to restore supply chain continuity for downstream semiconductor manufacturers.

The two parties also exchanged views on export controls and pledged to continue communication as the semiconductor sector faces elevated geopolitical and regulatory pressures.

Last week, following talks in Beijing, China granted an exemption while the Netherlands suspended its takeover plan, providing temporary relief to concerns over chip supply shortages. However, Beijing later cautioned that the suspension alone was insufficient and said uncertainty surrounding Nexperia’s supply chain would continue until the dispute is fully resolved.
