BusinessKorea: Hyundai faces MOSFET shortage

February 16, 2022

According to BusinessKorea, Hyundai Motor dispatched executives to Phoenix, Arizona, USA earlier this week to negotiate with semiconductor companies in order to ensure semiconductor supply.

The report pointed out that Hyundai Motor confirmed that it has encountered difficulties in the supply of MOSFETs.

MOSFETs are not expensive as a base device and do not get as much attention in times of shortage as MCUs. However, with the prolonged supply of semiconductors, this basic device has become in short supply.

The report also pointed out that electric vehicles use more MOSFETs than traditional combustion engine vehicles. Therefore, Hyundai's electrification strategy may suffer due to insufficient MOSFET supply.
