ASML reports fire at Berlin factory

SemiMediaEdit
January 4, 2022

ASML reported that its factory in Berlin, Germany, had a fire on the evening of the 2nd. The fire was extinguished at night and no one was injured. The company has not issued a statement on the damage or whether it will affect its production plans, but plans to spend a few days investigating and making a comprehensive assessment.

According to reports, the predecessor of the fired factory was Berliner Glas, which was acquired by ASML in 2020. It mainly manufactured optical systems for ASML lithography machines, including wafer tables, reticle chucks and mirror blocks.

According to industry analysts, the fire may limit ASML production (at least in the short term), thereby affecting planned OEM production.
