Arm plans to gain 50% PC market share within five years

June 4, 2024 /SemiMedia/ -- Arm CEO Rene Haas said in a recent interview that the company aims to win more than 50% of the Windows PC market share within five years. At the same time, Microsoft and its hardware partners are preparing to launch a batch of new computers based on Arm technology. Rene Haas expects that by the end of 2025, there will be 100 billion Arm devices in the world ready for artificial intelligence (AI).

Demand for use of Arm's technology in PCs got a boost after Microsoft in May unveiled plans to launch new PCs with artificial intelligence capabilities to compete with Alphabet and Apple.

Reports indicate that Microsoft's Windows operating system will run on chips based on the Arm architecture. Chips produced by Intel have dominated the PC industry for decades, and if Arm is successfully promoted, it will reshuffle the computing market.

"In Windows, I think really, over the next five years, Arm's market share could be over 50%," said Rene Haas.

Rene Haas further pointed out that Qualcomm designed the first Arm-based chip to introduce new Windows-based Arm devices to consumers and enterprises, and believed that other vendors would follow suit.
