Amkor's new factory in Vietnam will start operations in October

September 4, 2023 /SemiMedia/ -- Global outsourced semiconductor packaging and test services provider Amkor announced on September 1 that its new factory in Yen Phong II-C Industrial Park, Bac Ninh Province, Vietnam will start operations in October. The new factory has system-in-package (SiP), Storage packaging and some test production lines.

The new factory, which started construction in 2022, will be one of the largest factories operated by Amkor globally, covering an area of more than 176,500 square meters, and is second only to Amkor's South Korean factory.

In addition, Amkor will invest approximately $1.6 billion until 2035 to build a state-of-the-art facility in Bac Ninh. As of now, Amkor has a total of 17 packaging and testing factories in China, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines and Portugal.

According to reports, Amkor is the third American semiconductor company to set up a packaging and testing factory in Vietnam after onsemi and Intel.
