Recently, Cees Links, general manager of Qorvo Wireless Connection Business, pointed out in an interview with the media that Wi-Fi 6 will bring huge changes to the smart home ecosystem.

From a technical point of view, there are two main ways of wireless connection: one is cellular network, ie 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, and the other is Wi-Fi technology, IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac /ax, as an alternative to indoor cellular networks, Wi-Fi must handle large amounts of data traffic. The new generation of IEEE 802.11ax standard, also known as Wi-Fi 6, has a significant increase in Wi-Fi rate, frequency band, and coverage area, enabling Wi-Fi networks to have more bandwidth traffic to meet the network needs of multiple users, and also bring longer-distance transmission capability and better transmission rate, which can meet the needs of multiple applications such as AR/VR, autopilot and 4K video.

Cees Links pointed out that traditional Wi-Fi needs to switch SSID when connecting to current 2G, 3G or 4G networks, while Wi-Fi 6 is different.

Smart homes are the most potential smart applications that rely on Wi-Fi and IoT connectivity and communications. To achieve a true smart home, the One Pod Per Room design of Wi-Fi 6 technology is the best solution to take advantage of IoT communication technology and reach a distributed Wi-Fi architecture. As mentioned by Cees Links, each Pod is used as a wireless access point, and each access point will support Wi-Fi and IoT standards, including Zigbee and Bluetooth devices, and even control via voice-assisted commands. In addition, with the distributed Wi-Fi architecture, smart devices with the increased data throughput and bandwidth capacity of the latest Wi-Fi 6 standard can communicate with wireless routers across multiple channels to truly create a smart home environment without having to install multiple Ethernet connection points in additional gateways. Qorvo is focused on minimizing Pod's product size, providing lower power consumption and better performance.

Qorvo's Wireless Connectivity Business Unit is a leading developer of wireless semiconductor system solutions for interconnected devices, leading the way in both the Internet of Things and Wi-Fi 6. Qorvo offers integrated Wi-Fi front ends, as well as comprehensive, technologically advanced RF chips and software. With an excellent product quality and multi-standard coexistence concept, Qorvo is committed to building a world of connectivity and a better world.
