Intel announced that it will expand its three plants in Oregon, Ireland and Israel to ease supply issues and meet future demand.

Intel said it will soon apply for the Oregon plant to expand in 2019, and will not disclose more details until then. Intel is currently the largest employer in the region, and the expansion will bring more job opportunities to the local area.

Intel said that due to strong demand for data center industry and PC industry, resulting in a shortage of 14 nanometer capacity. In addition, according to Intel Senior Vice President Ann Kelleher, it is expected that the performance of the automotive, wireless communications and artificial intelligence departments will grow. For the above reasons, the expansion of the plant is a must-execute plan.

In addition, Ann Kelleher also pointed out that although Intel relies on its own fab in chip manufacturing, it does not rule out the assignment to external foundries under the right conditions.
