Semiconductor wafer prices will increase by 9%

According to reports, Global Wafers, Wafer Works and other silicon fabs recently negotiated with their customers for the first half of next year's contract price. Some insiders said that there has been a preliminary consensus on the negotiation. The average price of the contract in the first half of 2019 may increase by 7 to 9% compared with the current price, the average unit price of 12-inch silicon wafers will be around $112.

Since the beginning of this year, semiconductor silicon wafers have been in short supply. The price of 12-inch silicon wafers determined by first-tier foundries and memory factories in the first half of the year is about 95 US dollars. In the second half of this year, the price has increased by 6 to 8%, between 101 and 103 dollars.

According to earlier reports, the new capacity of semiconductor silicon wafers will not be released until the second half of 2020, and will continue to be in short supply next year. Although the silicon fab has signed long-term contracts with major customers, the price negotiation has been changed to semi-annual, but the price increase has not been reduced due to the length of time. In terms of the contract price trend next year, it will increase by 7 to 9% in the first half of the year, and will increase by 5 to 7% in the second half of the year, the annual increase will be around 15%.
