AMD plans GPU price hike amid memory shortage

November 26, 2025 /SemiMedia/ — AMD, the global chipmaker known for its graphics cards, has informed its supply chain partners that it plans to increase GPU prices by at least 10% next year due to rising memory costs. This marks the company’s second price adjustment in recent months, with the latest move passing costs through partners to end consumers.

GPU pricing has long been a contentious topic, with each generation seeing higher prices and power demands. Shortages driven by cryptocurrency demand have historically pushed GPU prices up. Earlier in 2025, similar market dynamics appeared, primarily due to supply constraints and the companies’ focus on AI-related products.

Memory surge pressures consumer GPU market

Memory prices have surged sharply in recent months, with some modules rising nearly 200%. This shortage pressure is now affecting the GPU segment. PowerColor recently warned of impending GPU price increases, and AMD appears to have confirmed to partners that the hike will be at least 10%, though final figures await official company announcements.

For AMD, the price adjustment comes as its flagship RX 9070 XT struggles to reach the suggested retail price. During this week’s Black Friday sales, the card dropped to $599, a new low since launch, though analysts suggest this may be temporary.

The broader GPU market is facing upward pricing pressures. Nvidia is expected to delay the launch of its RTX 50 Super series due to memory constraints. High-margin GPUs for data center clients are prioritized, potentially leaving consumer gaming graphics cards subject to rising prices.
