June 6, 2018

On the evening of June 5, a fire broke out at SK Hynix's factory in Wuxi, and the situation so far has not been clear. However, the fire occurred at the construction site of the plant and had no impact on the current production line, but it would affect the current construction progress.

It is understood that the fire that occurred in this time is the second plant in Wuxi that SK Hynix is constructing, with a total investment of 8.6 billion U.S. dollars. It will start construction in 2017 and plan to produce 200,000 10-nanometer wafers per month.

SK Hynix Semiconductor (China) Co., Ltd. was established in Wuxi in 2005. There were two accidents before this plant. The first was a power outage in 2008, the second time was a major fire in September 2013. Both accidents caused the scrapping of wafers and has a major impact on the supply of global DRAM and NAND products, including soaring prices and supply shortages.

In this fire, Hynix's production line was not affected, so it should not affect the supply.
