According to THE ELEC, Murata and Taiyo Yuden expect revenue from multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) to grow by 11% and 14%, respectively, in fiscal 2022. TDK expects revenue growth to be between 7% and 10% over the same period.

The report pointed out that the revenue of Murata, Taiyo Yuden and TDK in the last fiscal year was 788.5 billion yen, 230.3 billion yen and 198.1 billion yen, respectively.

Demand for 5G smartphones and electric vehicles (EVs) is leading the growth of MLCCs, Murata said. Global smartphone shipments will grow only 1% to 1.37 billion units, while 55% of Murata's shipments will come from 5G smartphones.

Murata also said it expects total vehicle shipments to reach 84 million this year, up 10% year-on-year, but electric vehicle shipments are expected to rise 50% year-on-year to 24 million.

Despite the growth, Murata and Taiyo Yuden's growth forecasts for this year are down from 25% and 18%, respectively, from the previous fiscal year.
