On the evening of the 13th, an earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale occurred in the northeastern region of Japan, which affected the production of manufacturers such as Murata, Renesas, and Shin-Etsu. Among them, Murata's factories in Fukushima and Miyagi have suspended operations; Renesas estimates that it will take a week to resume normal production.

Murata confirmed that due to the strong earthquake, its factories in Fukushima and Miyagi have suspended operations. Murata did not specify when the factory will resume work, but revealed that it will not last long.

Renesas said on the 15th that the Naka factory in Ibaraki Prefecture was temporarily interrupted due to the earthquake. After shutting down the clean room on the morning of the 14th, the plant will resume production today. It is estimated that it will take a week for production capacity to return to normal.

Most of the manufacturing facilities of the silicon wafer producer Shin-Etsu Chemical’s Ichihara factory in Chiba Prefecture have ceased operations and it will take about 20 days to resume operations.

In addition, there are other electronic component manufacturers in the region such as the joint venture 200mm wafer fab of ON Semiconductor and Fujitsu, Taiyo Yuden, Toshiba, etc. Up to now, none of these companies have issued relevant announcements.
