April 26, 2024 /SemiMedia/ -- Infineon recently announced the expansion of its partnership with Amkor Technology, a semiconductor packaging and testing service provider. The two parties will build a new packaging and testing center in Porto, Portugal, which is expected to begin operations in the first half of 2025.

Through this agreement, Infineon and Amkor further strengthen their partnership while expanding their semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) business model and strengthening the resilience of the European semiconductor supply chain.

Amkor's factory in Porto, Portugal, specializes in semiconductor packaging, assembly and testing. In the future, it will expand and establish a clean room production line, while Infineon is responsible for providing product design and research and development. Infineon already has a large service center in Porto, with more than 600 employees.

Infineon pointed out that with the establishment of this production center, it can further expand its business in Portugal, while strengthening the importance of Europe as a semiconductor manufacturing base and strengthening regional flexible manufacturing capabilities and supply security for customers.
