Murata plans to shift its focus from high-end mobile phones to the mid-to-low-end mobile phone market

December 15, 2023 /SemiMedia/ -- According to reports, Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. President Norio Nakajima recently stated that in view of the slowdown in the growth of the global smartphone market, it will shift its focus from high-end mobile phones to the mid-to-low-end mobile phone market, hoping to break through the slow growth caused by the saturated high-end mobile phone market.

Murata estimates that global smartphone manufacturers will produce a total of 1.1 billion mobile phones this year, and only single-digit growth is possible in the future.

Over the years, Murata has always focused on high-profit, high-end capacitors used in high-end models such as Apple and Samsung. Focusing on helping customers reduce production costs for low-priced smartphones will allow Murata to expand scale in growth markets.

Murata Manufacturing predicts that the smartphone market will grow by 5% in the new year ending in March 2025, mainly driven by demand for mid-to-low-end mobile phones in India, Africa, and Southeast Asia.
