October 11, 2023 /SemiMedia/ -- According to a report from TechInsights, Sony’s latest CMOS image sensor (CIS) IMX803 is used in Apple’s iPhone 15 smartphones. Driven by the iPhone 15, Sony's CIS shipment demand is expected to further increase.

Sony's 48-megapixel IMX803 sensor was first used in the iPhone 14 Pro series last year and is one of the top 20 smartphone CIS image sensor model shipments in the first half of 2023.

In addition, Apple also used Sony's new 12-megapixel IMX913 CIS in the iPhone 15 Pro Max periscope telephoto lens application; Apple used Sony's IMX591 to upgrade its lidar camera.

TechInsights believes that from the perspective of market trends, the adoption of 48-megapixel CIS in the iPhone series is very important to promote the high-resolution segment above 4800 pixels in the smartphone CIS market.

Driven by Apple iPhone 15 series, Sony is expected to achieve its smartphone CIS sales target of $8 billion this year.
