Recently, Microchip Technology announced that it has established a new R&D center in Chennai, India. The new center covers an area of approximately 100,000 square feet and can accommodate 1,200 employees.

According to Microchip, the new R&D center will focus on IC design, physical design, computer-aided design (CAD), applications and software development. In addition, the center will work to promote the development of a local ecosystem for integrated circuit design and professional embedded system development.

In addition to Chennai, Microchip has development centers in Bangalore and Hyderabad and has increased the number of employees to approximately 1,800 employees over the past decade. Microchip's customer base in India is currently around 1,500. Microchip said the company's increased investment in the region will make it an important player in the Indian semiconductor market.

President and Chief Operating Officer Ganesh Moorthy said: "The new Chennai Development Center underscores Microchip's commitment to design and develop differentiated embedded control solutions for our customers. Microchip's continued investment in India provides an opportunity for highly qualified engineers in the country. At the same time, we are able to better serve the growing customer base in the region."
