GlobalWafers launched the South Korean plant expansion plan. It is estimated to invest US$438 million to expand the 12-inch wafer production line with a monthly production capacity target of 150,000 pieces, which is expected to be mass-produced in 2020.

According to GlobalWafers, the South Korean plant is located in Cheonan, 80 kilometers south of Seoul. The expansion plan is based on long-term orders confirmed by customers, and the new capacity will be fully provided to long-term customers.

Benefiting from the continuous shortage of semiconductor silicon wafer market, GlobalWafers' orders continued to be fully loaded, and product prices also increased. The third quarter revenue reached NT$15.162 billion, an increase of 5.5% over the second quarter, a record high.

GlobalWafers pointed out that the demand for new generation products including automotive electronics, 5G, memory, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, high-speed computing and other applications continues to increase, and semiconductor silicon wafer demand will grow steadily.
